Основная структурная и функциональная единица всех живых организмов. Все живые клетки содержат цитоплазму, окружённую плазменной мембраной. Большинство микробных клеток заключено во внешнюю жёсткую или полужёсткую клеточную стенку. Клетки содержат генетический материал ( ДНК), который контролирует наследование различных признаков, а также рибосом, необходимых для трансляции этой информации в белки.
Активно растущая клетка, в отличие от спорообразующей клетки не принимающая участие в половом размножении.
Клетка, содержащая в одном ядре одинарный набор хромосом, в котором каждая хромосома представлена в единственном числе.

Простейший тип живой клетки. К прокариотическим клеткам относятся такие одноклеточные организмы, как бактерии и цианобактерии. Особенностью прокариотической клетки является отсутствие ядерной мембраны, митохондрий, хлоропластов и других органелл, меньший размер рибосом, а также весьма ограниченная способность выделять и поглощать крупные молекулы.

Метод, способствующий слиянию пары клеток ( или протопластов), в результате которого образуется новая отдельная клетка, содержащая хромосомы из обеих предшествующих клеток.
